Assemblywoman Susan A. Bonilla has named Kate Ertz-Berger as the 14th Assembly District Woman of the Year. Ertz-Berger received her award at Friday’s “Women on the Move” reception hosted by Assemblywoman Bonilla in Concord.

Bonilla recognized Ertz-Berger for her 28 years of leadership as the Executive Director of the Contra Costa Child Care Council – a state funded child care resource and referral agency. During her service, Ertz-Berger has overseen the council’s growth of programs and expansion of services in three office locations throughout the county. She continues to lead the council by pulling together the diverse elements in the community – parents, child care providers, business, developers, government and labor – into an effective public/private partnership addressing child care issues.

“Kate has embodied the vision of the Contra Costa Child Care Council – that the health and education needs of the young children of Contra Costa County must be fulfilled so they can achieve their full potential,” said Bonilla.

“I’m honored and humbled to receive this award,” said Ertz-Berger. “However nothing is accomplished alone. I have been extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to work with an amazing Board and staff. Their commitment and passion for improving the lives of children is outstanding. We are also fortunate to have a legislator like Susan Bonilla as a champion for children in Sacramento. She has led the struggle to reinvest in and rebuild the state’s system of early care and education.”
