The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans are teaming up today for a day-long litter clean-up and enforcement day along Bay Area highways.

The agencies are joining forces with the message “Don’t Trash California” to increase public awareness of garbage left on roadways.

Motorists will see more orange litter bags along the roadways today as crews from Caltrans clean up trash.

The CHP will be patrolling roads looking for anyone violating litter laws.

In a statement, Caltrans District 4 Director Bijan Sartipi said, ”Last year, Caltrans spent about $50 million statewide cleaning up litter.

Crews also collected enough trash to fill more than 8,000 garbage trucks.”

This is the 10th litter clean-up and enforcement day by both agencies.
